ALD Literacy Agency
Fiction

Step 1:

Click on the "Submission Guidelines" and "Terms." If you want to be
represented by ALD, send us your book proposal by postal mail or email.

Option 1: via post mail
Please, do not send your material to ALD registered, certified or in any other
manner in which we must sign for each.

If you want your material returned in the event that it is not accepted for
representation, please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope (SASE) with
sufficient postage to cover the cost of mailing.

Option 2: via email
Please, do not include attachments. If we are interested, we will ask for
additional materials.

Step 2:

We aim to reply within 1-3 weeks.
If your work is not accepted for representation or if your manuscript needs
some level of polishing, we will send you a reply.
If we like what we read, we would then ask for the full manuscript.

Step 3:

Send your manuscript following these guidelines:
  1. Double space the manuscript.
  2. Print single-sided.
  3. Start each chapter on a new page.
  4. Use clear readable twelve-point font.
  5. Number each page.
  6. Do not staple or bind pages.
  7. Do not send your manuscript in a box. Use a USPS Priority Mailer envelope.
  8. If you want your material returned in the event that it is not accepted for representation, please include SASE with sufficient postage.
Step 4:

ALD usually makes a final decision within 2 – 4 weeks of receiving your manuscript. If we do not end up working together, we will send you the results of our review and ever return your material or destroy it. If we will decide that your manuscript is accepted for representation, we will send you the Contract.

Step 5:

Sign the Contract and send it to ALD via postal mail.

Step 6:

ALD starts working with publishing companies.

Nonfiction

Skip Step 3.

A novel is usually sold on a complete manuscript. Nonfiction is rarely sold on the manuscript; normally on proposals.
